Bury college is welcoming applications for a SEND Advisory Tutor, the role is full time on a fixed term basis to cover maternity, starting in January.

The SEND Advisory Tutor role sits within the Additional Learning Support Team (ALS) and is integral in supporting learners with SEND, EHCP and High Needs across all campuses and venues for all provision types - 16-18 & High needs, Adults, and apprentices.

The SEND Advisory Tutor will be responsible for planning implementing and reviewing the support for learners within the following curriculum areas:

  • Foundations and prospects
  • Catering

The SEND Advisory Tutor supports the ALS & Course teams in identifying and employing effective support strategies for students with additional needs and EHCPs. The successful candidate would be expected to liaise with course teams regarding incoming or continuing learners with additional needs and EHCPs (or equivalent) to provide support for teachers and assist with activities that promote integration of ALS into curriculum.

The purpose of a SEND Advisory Tutor is to ultimately share best practice in supporting learners with additional needs, including EHCPs. They must ensure each individual learner has a good college experience and achieves their potential. The successful candidate would be expected to make a true difference in the inclusivity of our college provision.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Must have experience of working in the post-16 setting, planning and delivering additional learning support covering a range of disciplines: English, Maths, ESOL, SLDD, SpLD, MLD, etc for individuals and groups of learners.
  • Proven background of working with young adults with additional needs, target-setting and recording progress of students
  • Hold a specialist qualification for teaching students with learning difficulties or disabilities / alternatively a postgraduate Qualification in Individual Specialist Assessment/SPLD Level 7 (although not essential).
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent and hold a full teaching qualification or professional recognition in learning and skills (or be currently working towards).
  • Experience of working within Education and Health Care Plan guidelines and of using the RARPA quality assured process is, however, essential.
