About the role

We are seeking to hire an outstanding Research Assistant/Associate to join the Safe Artificial Intelligence Lab (SAIL) group, led by Prof. Alessio Lomuscio. The SAIL group is a friendly, vibrant, multi-national team working on various aspects of safe Artificial Intelligence, including verification & robustification of machine learning systems and autonomous systems. The group also has strong links with the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Safe and Trusted Artificial Intelligence and US institutions.

The successful candidates will join the EU-funded project EvenFlow (https://evenflow-project.eu/). The overarching aim of the project is to develop methods to assess the reliability and safety of neurosymbolic systems aimed at detecting simple and complex events.

The post will be based in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London at the White City Campus. The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science in the UK and the world & has consistently been awarded the highest research rating. What you would be doing

The role will focus on verification, robustification & adversarial attacks for event-based systems (images, videos, or tabular) based on machine-learning, including transformer-based systems, & trained with neurosymbolic methods. 

Main Duties:

  • Verification and analysis of feed-forward, time-series, transformer-based & other neural networks as used in event recognition systems.
  • Machine Learning with particular emphasis on robustness.

What we are looking for

  • Research Associate: Hold a PhD in Computing or Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience*
  • Research Assistant: A strong Master’s degree in an area pertinent to the subject area, i.e. Computing or Engineering.
  • Either a strong background in verification of neural networks, & adversarial search, OR a strong background in machine learning with particular emphasis to robustness.
  • A strong publication track record in relevant conferences or journals.

*Candidates who not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be hired at Research Assistant level: salary scale £43,003 - £46,297 per annum.
