This role will be based on the University campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
Are you a management accountant looking for a challenging 12 month fixed term (maternity cover) role with a commercial slant? Are you a self-starter, able to work independently, to tight timescales, delivering a professional and supportive finance service to a wide range of stakeholders?
We are seeking a proactive, self-driven individual to work as a key member of the Research and Innovation Service (RIS) team with strong links and collaboration with the Financial Services and Management Accounting teams as well. You will become the “go to” finance person for RIS colleagues. You will deliver effective and efficient financial support to RIS, not only in terms of day-to-day preparation and management of financial plans within the service, including university wide research and innovation initiatives (such as the Higher Education Innovation Fund) but also in terms of identifying finance process improvements which will enable RIS to operate more efficiently and effectively.
You will take the lead in providing support to budget holders, maintaining an effective accounting structure, with the aim of improving financial reporting across a whole range of diverse activities within RIS. You will provide support to the Commercialisation team within RIS, through financial management of patents and licenses and reporting on the University investment portfolio.
You will have relevant experience in a complex financial environment including the preparation of and monitoring against financial plans, and of producing financial management information for non-finance professionals. You will have a knowledge and understanding of the University’s financial processes, procedures and regulations and be able to provide advice, accordingly, ensuring day to day processes, transactions and audit requirements are correctly managed within the service. You will have the ability to manage multiple deadlines and activities at the same time, be comfortable with dealing with a wide range of colleagues. A key attribute is that you are proactive and able to use your own initiative in carrying out the role, without the need for close supervision. You will also provide professional challenge and be able to embrace change.
