The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. In a project funded by the ESRC, we aim to investigate the effects of conflict exposure on the human capital of Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and Gaza: specifically to explore the effects of short and long-term exposure to conflict from 2010 to 2020 on (1) family formation patterns (age at childbearing, family planning) (2) use of selected services (antenatal care, maternity care, immunizations, school attendance) (3) child well-being and development indicators, and (4) all-cause mortality, including stillbirth, and risk-factors associated with early mortality.
The post-holder will be responsible for coordinating data linkage and data analysis to achieve the four objectives using ACLED and UNRWA data, and will be expected to lead the write up of papers. They will be accountable to Prof Oona Campbell and will primarily work as part of the Maternal Health Group.
The post-holder must have a doctoral degree in a relevant topic along with expertise in Epidemiology and Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition with a high level of quantitative skills. Fluency in Arabic language is also essential. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is full-time 35 hours per-week, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term for 24 months with possibility for extension.
The post is funded by ESRC and available from 25 November 2024.
The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 7 in the range of £52,199-£55,428 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
The post is based in London at LSHTM.
