The Leo Baeck Institute London is seeking to recruit a postdoctoral fellow to conduct research on the intersections and entanglements between German-Jewish and British history, including the British Empire, with a specific topic of their choosing. This is a 0.5 FTE position, lasting one year.

Role Description:

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the understanding of cultural, social, and intellectual exchanges between German-Jewish emigrants and British society, particularly in the context of migration, exile, and the aftermath of the Holocaust. This role aims to enhance the profile and scope of the Institute’s activities and encourage new collaborations, publications, and outreach initiatives. The researcher will also be affiliated with Birkbeck, University of London, as an Honorary Research Fellow.

The Leo Baeck Institute London is a research institute devoted to the study of German-Jewish history, focusing particularly on the period from the 19th century to the present day. As the leading institution in its field, the institute holds a collection of primary sources, providing researchers with resources for exploring the history of German-speaking Jewry in Europe. In addition to its archival holdings, the institute hosts lectures, seminars, and exhibitions, encouraging dialogue amongst academics, students, and the wider public. The LBI London is committed to expanding access to its collections and promoting scholarly inquiry into German-Jewish history and culture.

Hours: Part-time, 0.5 FTE

Contract: Fixed term until 31st December 2025
