About us
UCL Global Engagement (GE) helps put UCL’s knowledge to work in the world, supporting Faculties to deliver impact for the greater good, through global partnerships for change. GE comprises a high-performing team of professionals with experience in providing high quality global research and education support to academics, expertise in global partnership development and management, as well as expertise in geo-political analysis, global communications, strategic planning and operations.
About the role
We are seeking a Senior Global Engagement Manager (SGEM) for the Africa and Middle East (AME) portfolio to join our Global Engagement team. The SGEM will provide high-quality strategic and practical advisory services to Faculties, Professional Services, and senior leadership to facilitate UCL’s global partnerships and engagement.
In this role, you will develop a deep understanding of the higher education and research landscape within the AME region, acting as a key source of expertise. You will support academics and teams in navigating the cultural, technical, and regulatory complexities of international collaboration, helping to extend the reach and impact of UCL’s research and education activities globally.
You will also act as a bridge between UCL and external organizations, lowering barriers to collaboration and helping identify opportunities for impactful partnerships. Proactive relationship-building with internal academic departments and external stakeholders, including universities, governments, and embassies, is vital to the role.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of new strategic priorities in a diverse and growing region.
About you
To be successful in this role, you must have in-depth knowledge of the internationalisation of the higher education sector, particularly in relation to Africa and the Middle East. Significant experience in independently developing and implementing impactful global higher education partnerships in these regions is essential, as is the ability to manage complex projects autonomously. Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce strategic reports and proposals are required, along with the ability to meet or exceed objectives in a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will be culturally and politically aware, with a strong motivation to work as part of a team and deliver results. A willingness to travel and occasionally work outside of standard hours is also essential.
A relevant postgraduate degree, project management qualifications, and experience in drafting agreements, managing risk, and experience of living or working outside the UK are desirable but not essential. Fluency in a relevant language is also an advantage.
What we offer
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents we also offer some great benefits including 41 days holiday (including closure days and bank holidays), more can be seen on our website.
