Research Associate

Salary: As this vacancy has limited funding the maximum salary that can be offered is Grade 6, salary £32,546

Contract Type: Fixed Term contract up to October 2025

This post is to deliver on a project funded by the Alice’s Arc trust to develop a model for rabdomyosarcoma in zebrafish xenografts. The post holder will carry out experiments in zebrafish embryos in which cancer cells will be implanted and their growth monitored by in vivo 4D imaging and the images analysed for the effects of chemotherapy regimes applied on the embryos. The post holder will assist in research (by carrying out data collection or analyses) to create knowledge through providing research support to the above project in the Mueller and Gatz research groups.

Main Responsibilities

• Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews.
• Analyse research data as directed.
• Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters.
• Develop or adapt techniques, models and methods.
• Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research.
• Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines.
• Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research.
• Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.

Person Specification

• Degree (preferably BSc and Masters level) or equivalent in relevant subject area.
• Practical experience essential with zebrafish embryo culture, zebrafish embryo injection and zebrafish embryo imaging and quantitative imaging data analyses (in vivo and ex vivo fluorescence imaging upon embryo immobilization).
• Experience with statistical analyses is desirable.
• Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively.
• Ability to access and organise resources successfully.
• Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day-to-day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
