The Institute of Making (IoM)
The IoM is a unique organisation that explores, celebrates, and investigates materials and processes through a wide range of activities. From large-scale public events to ground-breaking academic research projects, our diverse outputs and many audiences are united by a shared passion for materials and making. In Autumn 2023, we opened a second IoM space in Stratford, expanding our facilities with a bespoke space at UCL East, on the Olympic Park.
About the role
In this exciting new role, the post-holder will develop and deliver communications across all areas of the IoM’s practice. With a vibrant, innovative, and hands-on practice, the IoM is a treasure trove of unexpected stories about making processes and materials. The post-holder will identify and communicate these, allowing our audiences to discover and enjoy the wondrous explorations that take place in the Materials Library, our workshops, the events programmes, and research projects.
About you
As an Events Manager at the Institute of Making, you’ll be responsible for developing and delivering intriguing, joyful events that celebrate materials and making. This role is perfect for someone who is flexible, positive and organised, and someone who enjoys being hands-on with all areas of the event management process.
You’ll cater to a wide variety of audiences to deliver events with creativity and organisational flair; including large-scale public festivals, and materials and making-related masterclasses.
Joining a small, dynamic team, you’ll work closely to make a big impact with our Head of Events & Communications, Sara, our Events Manager, Liza, and our Communications Manager, Becca.
The ideal candidate would be embedded in local culture in and around Stratford (the home of our brand-new, second workshop); helping us to connect with local makers, creative networks and community initiatives.
Our workplace puts people first - we actively build a culture where everyone feels welcomed, valued, included and empowered. We also encourage applications from those who are interested in the arts, but may not have traditional arts backgrounds.
