The University of Cambridge, Department of Earth Sciences is seeking an experienced  and motivated programme manager to run the UKRI funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in the Application of Artificial Intelligence to the study of Environmental Risks (AI4ER). The post holder will manage and deliver the CDT programme, with high visibility both within the host department, the University, and beyond.

The successful applicant will bring significant expertise in the running of large scale programmes and responsibilities will include communication with stakeholders (students, industry partners, PIs, the public) and organisation of events and workshops.

AI4ER is a multidisciplinary, interdepartmental Masters and PhD programme designed to train the next generation of future leaders to tackle global climate challenges using AI. The programme is partnered with the British Antarctic Survey and fifteen departments across the University including: Applied Maths and Theoretical Physics, Archaeology & Anthropology, Architecture, Chemistry, Computer Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Geography, Land Economy, Plant Sciences, Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics and Zoology, along with the Laboratory for Scientific Computing and Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. The role holder will lead and inspire a small and motivated team and will also need to communicate frequently to a wide audience, including senior academic  and administrative staff, external partners and students.

The CDT has funded 51 PhD students over the past 5 years. All students have completed a Master's of Research with the Dept of Earth Sciences in their first year before embarking on a 3 year PhD at the start of their second year in Cambridge. The role holder will play a central role in training, events and monitoring progress of the PhD students on the programme.

The post holder will need to be well organised and able to work to deadlines at critical times. They will have demonstrable expertise in running and delivering large scale programmes , ideally in an academic setting, and be able to demonstrate creativity, team leadership and people management skills. They will also have an ability to explain complex information to non-experts and encourage commitment to learn in others.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 September 2027 in the first instance.
