This post will contribute to an ongoing Wellcome Trust funded programme of work entitled ‘Harnessing epidemiological and genomic data for understanding of respiratory virus transmission at multiple scales’. This is a collaboration between University of Manchester, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge and ONS. The post will work specifically on Workpackage 2, called “Within- and between-household transmission risks,” to develop models and analysis techniques for analysis of household transmission in the Office for National Statistics’ unique COVID-19 Infection Survey dataset. This seeks to answer the following questions: What total contribution to positivity did within-household transmission make over time? What drives within-household transmission at individual (e.g., age, vaccination status), pathogen (e.g., variant), and household (e.g., building type and crowding) levels, and how do these interact with each other and with between-household transmission risks? The work will be supervised by the overall project Principal Investigator, Thomas House, and will involve collaboration with Joe Hilton, Research Fellow in the Manchester Centre for Health Economics. There are other collaborators within the University of Manchester and at collaborating institutions the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. A picture of the project kick-off meeting showing the current team is below.
