About us

UCL Global Engagement (GE) helps put UCL’s knowledge to work in the world, supporting our Faculties to deliver impact for the greater good, through global partnerships. GE comprises a high-performing team of professionals with experience in providing high quality global research and education support to academics, expertise in global partnership development and management, as well as expertise in geo-political analysis, global communications, strategic planning and operations.

We are part of the Office of the UCL Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement) – RIGE – which brings together a range of functions, services and resources for the UCL community and external partners. RIGE is dedicated to supporting people, crossing boundaries and enabling responsible impact – for the greater good, locally, nationally and internationally.

About the role

Strategic Global Initiatives Managers (SGIM) manage a suite of ongoing programmes and fixed term projects that directly enable UCL Faculties’ global engagement and improve the ways in which international collaboration is supported across our university.

The programmes and projects overseen by SGIMs are varied in nature, scale and scope. They are often cross-regional and/or cross-functional, with stakeholders drawn from across UCL’s Faculties and Professional Services departments.
SGIMs lead on developing proposals, organising consultations, designing processes, preparing business cases, convening working groups, advising Faculties on cross-regional global opportunities and ensuring that outputs from programmes and projects are implemented effectively.

As well as working on cross-regional programmes and projects, SGIMs also work closely alongside Senior Global Engagement Managers within GE to support major new Faculty initiatives, complex projects and to provide additional support for regional activities where needed.

SGIMs require a deep understanding of international higher education, and an ability to both understand and inform the strategic needs of UCL and our Faculties. The SGIM is a proactive role, seeking opportunities to make continuous improvements to the support on offer to the UCL community from Global Engagement. To that end, SGIMs forge strong working relationships across UCL and with key external organisations.

Hybrid working – 40% office based, fixed team day of Wednesday.

Interviews will be held in-person on our Bloomsbury campus on 11th November.
