Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in safeguarding the future of information security? Join Birkbeck, University of London, as our Head of Information Security & Governance this Autumn 2024.

As part of our Information Services department, you will lead a team dedicated to ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our institutional systems and the data they house. Working with the team, those managing IT systems in other departments and the wider University, this is your chance to make a significant impact at a leading institution.

As Head of Information Security & Governance you will report directly to the Chief Information Officer and, at the highest level, will:

  • Understand and manage the risk of Information Security.
  • Provide leadership to the areas of Data Protection, Data Management and Freedom of Information Compliance.
  • Lead on development and implementation of risk identification and management approaches related to technology, data protection and data management risk – in conjunction with and aligned with risk management approaches across Birkbeck.
  • Work to ensure efforts are made to identify, reduce and remove risks.

You will also research and recommend suitable security framework(s) and lead their adoption at Birkbeck. As well as undertake horizon scanning, understanding risks and issues and proposing solutions to them.

The ideal Head of Information Security & Governance will have:

  • In-depth knowledge of information security frameworks and standards.
  • Experience in managing security events and risk management.
  • Strong skills in digital forensic techniques and network technologies.
  • A proactive approach to personal development and staying updated with new technologies.

If you have experience or interest in roles such as Chief Information Security Officer, IT Security Manager, Information Governance Lead, Data Protection Officer, or Cyber Security Manager, this position at Birkbeck could be the perfect fit for you.

Salary and benefits:
£62,756 rising to £69,974 per annum, (rising to £63,402 - £70,801 from March 2025), Grade 9 of the College's London Pay Scale which includes London Weighting.

Contract:
