The Post

We are seeking a suitably qualified applicant for the post of Lecturer in Education (Secondary Mathematics). The post holder will have teaching expertise and experience in secondary mathematics teaching and will be registered as a teacher by the General Teaching Council for Scotland, or eligible for full registration.

They will contribute to the ITE programme both in the specialist area and more widely, including in a leadership role for the ITE programme. They will also have the potential to contribute to other Education programmes including the University’s Access to Degree Studies programme and postgraduate taught programmes. Applicants should demonstrate understanding of and commitment to a blended approach to teaching and to pedagogical innovation.

The post holder will be passionate about learning and teaching, committed to the highest standards in relation to student experience and will have a growing reputation for scholarship, with the potential to contribute substantively to scholarly activities across the Education Division and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Notably, there are opportunities to engage with scholarship activities with colleagues focusing on curriculum, professional learning and social justice, including through the Stirling Centre for Research into Curriculum Making and the Education Division’s four Research Groups.

Description of duties

  • Design, teach, assess and evaluate a range of teaching and learning, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including online/digital programmes where required.
  • Contribute to curriculum review and enhancement, in a manner that is underpinned by evidence based scholarly activity.
  • Enhance the quality of teaching provision and programme development, drawing on leading practices from the Higher Education sector.
  • Develop and apply new, effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques and material, which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.
  • Contribute to enhancement of the student experience and employability.

Essential criteria

  • Extensive professional and/or teaching, learning and development experience
    equivalent to doctoral level. Or a PhD (completed or near completion).
  • Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent e.g. PGCert and/or holding or working towards Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (HEA).
  • Full registration with General Teaching Council of Scotland (or eligible for full registration).
  • Experience of designing and delivering excellent learning activities and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level preferably including online/digital programmes.
