The post of Head of Subject for Education, Childhood and Professional Studies at Birmingham Newman University is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, innovative and vibrant University that values its staff and puts students at the heart.

The post offers a unique chance to lead and manage an experienced team of dynamic educators in a department offering a range of foundation degrees, undergraduate degrees and postgraduate provision. The subject is part of the Faculty of Education, one of two faculties in the University. As the Head of Subject you will work with the Associate Deans for Recruitment and Partnership, and Student Experience and Success as well as the Executive Dean of Faculty, to substantially increase and retain the student population, enhance existing provision, and extend the education portfolio.

The University is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to this critical role, with an in-depth knowledge in the field(s) of education. You should have an understanding of, and commitment to social justice and to widening opportunity, as well as the understanding of the current Higher Education policy landscape and the challenges and opportunities that this presents so that you can successfully lead the subject team in its next stages of development.

The Faculty and the University are committed to increasing meaningful partnerships. As the Head of Subject you will lead the subject team to develop and enhance their strategic relationships with employers and other organisations, to promote our suite of education courses impacting on recruitment and increasing successful progression to employment.

You will ensure the efficient and effective leadership and delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with University strategy, policy and procedures. You will undertake and/or support research activity and engage in enterprise activity, influencing leading edge practice.
