About us:

Disability Support and Inclusion works to remove barriers faced by disabled students so that they can participate within the King’s community on an equal level to their peers.

We offer information, advice and guidance to disabled students (both prospective and current students) as part of the Student Services department. Through offering practical and professional advice and guidance, we aim to enhance the support provided within academic faculties and tailor it to ensure the bespoke needs of individuals are considered and met. In addition, Disability Support & Inclusion plays a crucial role in embedding inclusive practices as standard across the university.

This is a hybrid working role and currently Disability Support and Inclusion is located at the Strand Campus, will be moving to our new location in Waterloo in Spring/ Summer 2025

About the role:

The Head of Disability Support and Inclusion- Operations is a new role in the Disability Support and Inclusion Service and you will manage the specialist services including learning support, diagnostic screening and the assistant disability advisors (5.8FTE). This role is integral to ensuring the smooth operation at key times in the student life cycle such as coordinating the onboarding future students. There is scope and opportunity to develop student pathways between the Disability Support and Inclusion Service sub services to improve the student experience.

This is a full time 35 Hours per week, and you will be offered an indefinite  contract, part time hours will be considered to 0.8FTE

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Designing processes for the Disability Support and Inclusion services and ensuring their viability across wider functions; for example, Residences.
  2. Utilise your systems knowledge to adapt King’s existing IT systems to improve communicating key information and monitoring effectiveness of the provision.
  3. Responsibility for meeting the Operations Key Performance Indicators withing the Disability Support and Inclusion Service through strong leadership and team management.
  4. Leading on the Future Student process to supportively onboard disabled students joining King’s.
  5. Ensuring digital accessibility of the service’s website and virtual learning environment.
  6. Ability to translate complex information into easily understood language for the given audience and to use language in a persuasive way.
  7. Relevant work experience and/or education: We think a wide range of different work and educational experiences could support you to be successful in this role. Relevant work experience might include work in Assessment Centers, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, or Further Education. Relevant educational experiences might include higher education in a related discipline, professional qualifications or other training
  8. Ability to engage in collaborative working across King’s professional services, Faculties, and academic and student communities, with a meaningful and visible commitment to Diversity & Inclusion policies and practices
  9. Experience of working in a federated environment where facilitation and networking skills are core to resolving complex cross departmental problems

Desirable criteria

  1. Adept at maintaining progress on multiple agendas and projects simultaneously
  2. An understanding and working knowledge of governance in the higher education sector, and the regulatory & legal arrangements for UK university governance
  3. Post graduate qualification in disability, inclusion, assessing students with disabilities.
  4. National Association of Disability Practitioner-Accredited/ Senior Accredited Member.
