About the role

We are seeking 3 Research Fellows with methodological expertise in either qualitative methods, quantitative methods, or health economics and experience of conducting applied health and social care research related to the organisation and delivery of care. As a methodologist, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to undertake and deliver national level of complex innovations in health and social care.

The posts are aligned to this team and are offered on a fixed term basis for 5-years, effective from 1st February 2025.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 therefore the successful candidates will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

About the team

IDEAS is the InterDisciplinary Evaluation of complex innovations in heAlth and Social care team. This is a newly established team funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Health and Social Care Delivery Research (HSDR) programme to undertake and deliver national level evaluations of complex innovations in health and social care. Based at Northumbria University, Newcastle UK, the IDEAS team comprises academics, national and regional partners, and stakeholders. IDEAS is led by Professors Angela Bate and Sonia Dalkin (as co-directors), alongside Dr Jason Scott (as deputy director). We are located in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences within the Centre or Health and Social Equity (CHASE) and you will be aligned to the Department of Social Work Education and Community Wellbeing (SWECW) or the Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health (NMH).

About you 

To be eligible for one of these posts you will have a PhD (or be near to completion) (or equivalent) in a subject relevant to health and/or social care, or social sciences. Relevant degrees may include (but are not limited to) psychology, sociology, nursing/allied health care, social work, and public health. It is essential that you have knowledge and experience (including data collection and analysis) of either qualitative research methods, quantitative research methods, or health economics, including but not limited to evaluating health and social care services. Understanding of the UK health and social care system, including its organisation and delivery is essential. Your role will involve supporting the evaluation cycle from co-design, through data collection and analysis, to dissemination, knowledge exchange and delivering policy impact. You should have the ability to work independently, and the skills to liaise with project and policy partners across health and social care sectors. You will be supported to further develop your research and academic skills within a dynamic and supportive research environment.
