About the Role
The Advanced Vehicle Engineering Centre (AVEC) at Cranfield University, established in 2016, has a strong track record in low-carbon vehicle engineering for both on-road and off-road vehicles. AVEC has grown steadily due to its dedicated staff and unique, world-class experimental facilities. Its research and consultancy serve public bodies and global industrial clients, including major automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and racing teams from Formula 1, Formula 2, GT, WRC, and Dakar.
This role offers a chance to join a dynamic team and lead Automotive teaching and research at the Centre. The position supports the development of the Automotive MSc course, with a focus on vehicle system design, target setting, benchmarking, and system integration. The job involves developing research proposals for commercial clients and public funding, as well as leading the MSc course as Course Director, adapting it to emerging technologies. The role also includes contributing to academic research and promoting the Centre.
About You
You will be educated to doctoral level in Automotive Engineering or closely relevant discipline or equivalent significant industrial experience in the Automotive sector. With experience of Automotive design integration including the major components of powertrain, chassis, braking, HVAC etc. you will also require experience of project management, bid writing and journal paper production.

The Advanced Vehicle Engineering Centre (AVEC) is a dynamic, multidisciplinary hub supporting sectors like motorsport, automotive, aerospace, and defence. Known for strong industry connections, AVEC delivers diverse projects and offers postgraduate education, including five MSc courses, research degrees, and short courses. As AVEC continues to grow, it is now focusing on expanding its Automotive Engineering Teaching provision within its MSc and short course programs.
