Research Fellow in Cyber Threat Detection of Extended Reality

University of Greenwich - School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences

Location: Greenwich
Salary: £37,999 to £43,878 per annum, plus £4170 London weighting per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 8th October 2024
Closes: 18th October 2024
Job Ref: 4765

The University of Greenwich and its Centre for Sustainable Cyber Security (CS2) has been recently recognised by the UK government as a NCSC Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (https://www.gre.ac.uk/articles/public-relations/greenwich-recognised-as-a-centre-of-excellence-in-cyber-security-research).

The successful candidate will join the Horizon Europe project SUN, which is a high-profile international research project with more than 15 European partners, combining XR, artificial intelligence and cyber security.

SUN’s consortium of several key industrial and research organisations from across Europe will investigate and develop extended reality (XR) solutions that integrate the physical and the virtual world in a convincing way, from a human and social perspective. The particular role relates to the development of a technology that will help address primarily the cyber security weaknesses of the XR environments. At its core, it includes the development of an intrusion detection system that warns the user when a cyber threat has materialised. It involves data monitoring, automated analysis of the data and displaying a warning to the user when appropriate. This work will be carried out under the supervision of Professor George Loukas. You will need to be a highly competent researcher with experience in XR software development, and expertise either in augmented reality (ideally Hololens) or virtual reality (ideally META). Experience in OpenXR or cyber security is desirable but not necessary.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact Professor George Loukas (g.loukas@gre.ac.uk)
