Overview of the Role

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in qualitative research methods, Patients and Public Involvement (PPI) and health inequalities research? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities?

The St Gemma’s Academic Unit of Palliative Care within the Division of Primary Care, Palliative Care and Public Health is looking for a Research Fellow at 80% FTE to work on a project funded by Marie Curie. The ECAE (Equitable Care for All Ethnicities) project will develop a data collection tool for ethnicity and religion data within palliative care. You will work as part of a national team led by Dr Gemma Clarke at the University of Leeds and Dr Sabrina Bajwah at King’s College London (KCL). The main role will include undertaking qualitative interviews and focus groups with people from diverse ethnic backgrounds, and leading on co-design workshops in collaboration with peer researchers to design the data collection tool for use in palliative care.

You will require good organisational and communication skills as you will work with peer researchers, research participants and PPI representatives from diverse ethnic and religious communities, as well as clinical and academic colleagues and stakeholders across the UK. The study will involve research participants who may not be fluent in spoken or written English, so the role may involve working with interpreters and translators. We strongly encourage applications from those from ethnically diverse groups.
