The University of Southampton’s mission is to change the world for the better. As a world-leading, research-intensive university, with a strong and high-quality educational offering, it is renowned for its innovation and enterprise. We are a global Top-80 university (QS World University Rankings 2025), in the top-20 in the national league tables (2024) and have a strategic ambition to be recognised as a leading university for employability.
We have an immediate and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive Student Opportunities Coordinator to join the Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise division, working within the Work Experience Team to encourage and support students undertaking work experience opportunities.
Your focus will be to encourage and support students to participate in our work experience programmes, in particular the Year in Employment, influencing student engagement across all target areas. You will utilise innovative messaging and marketing techniques to raise awareness of the opportunities on offer across our 25,000 strong student body and ensure information to students is readily available; regularly reviewing guidelines and processes to be fit for purpose. You will be a point of contact for students undertaking a placement, involved in their journey from pre-placement application, placement approvals, onboarding, placement visits and check-ins, administrative support to academic assessment, through to helping students reintegrate into university.
If you have great customer relationship management skills, ability to work as part of a team, whilst also able to prioritise and manage own workload, we want to hear from you. Experience of design and delivery of marketing and communications are desirable and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel is essential.
Careers, Employability & Student Enterprise is a fast paced, progressive division, providing a range of support to help students build their career experience and make a successful transition into employment, self-employment or further study after graduation. As a university we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work. We welcome applications from candidates who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment. We encourage applications from candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, people who identify as LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities.
