With the retirement of the current post holder for a Head of Governance, the successful candidate will lead the development and have oversight of the University’s governance structures and processes including governance functions, audit risk and compliance, legal services, student disciplinary and complaints processes and the secretariat.
The Head of Governance will work closely with and provide support, via the Director of Governance and People Services, to the chairs and members of Council and its committees, including members of Council and to senior staff and committees of the university.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience of working in a governance, accountability or compliance environment in a large/complex organisation. They will have experience of managing senior stakeholders at Board level and providing expert briefings and advice.
The post holder will be a member of the Vice Chancellors Advisory Group (VCAG) and it is essential that they possess the ability to provide a comprehensive strategic scanning framework that provides insight and guidance on regulatory and governmental policy to ensure a coordinated approach and implementation across the university on such matters both strategically and operationally. This includes assessing and evaluating impact and resolving problems as they occur is essential. Key for the successful applicant is the ability to demonstrate the ability to take a strategic view of the role and the effectiveness of governance across the university, influencing and delivering change and improvement.
The capacity to act with integrity, tact and diplomacy, maintaining confidentiality at all times is an essential requirement of this role.
