The post

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Fellow to participate in a collaborative interdisciplinary project funded by NSF and BBSRC under the Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases programme: ‘A spatially-explicit model of bat evolution and pathogen transmission dynamics in complex changing landscapes’. This project will develop a framework for predicting the effects of diseases on wildlife populations, distribution and evolution that accounts for the effects of landscapes, movement, adaptation and climate change, focusing on the white-nose syndrome bat fungal disease system, that has decimated North American bat populations for the past two decades. The successful applicant will lead and/or assist on the molecular work and genomic data analysis aspects of the project, working closely with the US team, who will lead on the modelling aspects.

The post will include carrying out molecular lab work, bioinformatics and analysis of genomic datasets (including genome assembly, SNP calling,  population genomics and landscape genetics data analysis), generating data to inform the eco-evolutionary diseases models developed by the US team, leading and/or assisting the writing of manuscripts, working with project partners and contributing to dissemination of project outputs. The post will also include contributing to fieldwork in the US, led by the US team (length of fieldwork commitments are subject to discussion), to collect samples for molecular analysis of the response of North American bats to white nose syndrome, climate and land-use change.
