Location: Bath
Salary: £46,485 to £55,295 Grade 8
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 7th October 2024
Closes: 3rd November 2024
Job Ref: ED12115

About the role

  • You will develop an internationally leading independent research programme in the area of Chemical Biology.
  • You will teach core organic chemistry in both lectures and laboratory classes (Yrs 1-2), more specialised units in the final year of the programmes and potentially contribute to our PGT course on Drug Discovery (joint with the department of Life Sciences here in Bath), maintaining the University’s high standards in teaching and learning, and its inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • You will be supported to contribute at an appropriate level to the administration, leadership, and management of the Department’s activities as the role develops.

About you

In our department we offer an exceptional environment for research teaching and learning and we wish to support you in reaching your potential for internationally leading research, in the broad field of chemical biology.

We would be interested to hear from you if your research interests lie in chemical biology in the widest sense (a non-exhaustive list would be biocatalysis, chemical proteomics, robotics/digital chemistry, biopolymers). This could be an experimental and/or computational position.

If you have experience interacting with and complementing existing research within a department this would be advantageous.

You should hold a PhD and be able to demonstrate the potential to develop an internationally leading research programme, to acquire significant funding from UK and international sources, and to produce high quality publications.

Application Requirements & Selection Process:

Please provide both research and teaching statements of up to two pages for each in addition to a full CV and a statement of commitment to EDI.

Your research statement needs to outline your plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership. The teaching vision should outline your areas of teaching expertise and a range of potential teaching subjects as well as course development interests. These are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application.

For informal discussion about the role, please contact Professor Matthew Jones, Head of Department (mj205@bath.ac.uk), Dr Dan Pantos, Head of Organic Chemistry (gp340@bath.ac.uk) or Dr Gan Shermer, Director of Teaching (g.shermer@bath.ac.uk).

We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment for all staff, including mentorship and flexible working arrangements.

The Department and the University both currently hold Athena SWAN Silver awards, and we are working to further improve equality, diversity and inclusion.

If you would like to discuss any EDI issues or other aspects of the working environment with a member of staff who is not involved in the recruitment process, please contact Professor Petra Cameron (p.j.cameron@bath.ac.uk).

Interviews and presentations are scheduled for 9th and 10th December.
