A position is available for a sedimentologist/stratigrapher/petrologist to join the Stratigraphy Group, a large international research group based at the University of Manchester, as Research Fellow in Sedimentology, Stratigraphy and CO2 Storage. You will take a leading role in the LobeStore research programme. This programme aims to characterise reservoir-scale heterogeneity and mineralogical variability in deep-marine lobe successions, and the role these may play in CO2 migration, pressure dissipation, and reaction front surface area to support CO2 storage site appraisal and management. The research programme, which is led by Dr Ian Kane, Dr Lin Ma, Prof Steve Flint, and Prof David Hodgson (Leeds), will seek to integrate fieldwork in the Karoo Basin (South Africa) and other exhumed systems, subsurface systems from the North Sea/NCS, and detailed petrological characterisation. This work will develop new process-based insights into deep-water sedimentology, as well as providing geological data for pore- and reservoir-scale models in future projects.
You should have a PhD (or equivalent) in geoscience, with skills in, or willingness to learn, deep-marine sedimentary processes and stratigraphic successions, and, ideally, experience in petrology.
You will be comfortable leading and integrating key aspects of the programme, and be willing to contribute to and support a diverse and international research team. The post is based at the University of Manchester, UK.
