Natural, Mathematical, and Engineering sciences have played a central role at King’s since its foundation nearly 200 years ago. This rich tradition continues to the present day where we have created a diverse student and academic community, who have impact globally.
In the past six years, the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) has grown in size to over 4,500 students, nearly 500 academic and research, and 200 professional services staff. NMES comprises the departments of Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics, and also hosts interdisciplinary research centres in the Physical Science of Life and Net Zero, as well as King’s Quantum, and is home to the university’s Artificial Intelligence Institute. We have made significant investments in our staff and infrastructure, and the student experience, to be competitive with the world’s best.
We are now seeking a Vice Dean (Research) who will curate and develop research activity in line with our ambition to establish King’s as a beacon for research excellence across our core disciplines, and develop strong and impactful interdisciplinary links across King’s. This is an exciting time to join the Faculty at a time of significant investment, notably in King’s Interdisciplinary Science, which aims to build upon current strengths in natural and mathematical sciences and establish King’s as an outstanding global institution in science and technology. With nine academic faculties, King’s offers a vibrant environment to develop impactful, inclusive research collaborations that will contribute to the King’s vision to make the world a better place.
The post holder will work closely with the Executive Dean of the Faculty, Heads of Department, and fellow Vice Deans as part of the executive team to set the strategy for the faculty and build strong peer relationships with fellow Vice Deans of Research across the University.
Both King’s and NMES support the career development of staff from all backgrounds and the Vice Dean (Research) will be expected to evidence a deep commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. For further information please visit Vice Dean (Research), Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences and to apply please go to the Jobs at King's pages and submit the specified documentation.
Informal enquiries may be made to Matthew Granger within King’s Search team at Kings-search@kcl.ac.uk. The application deadline is 23.59hrs on Tuesday 29th October. The selection process will involve a two-stage interview process with First Round Interviews scheduled for November (Date TBC) and Final Interviews in early December (Date TBC).
