Short summary

One of the Francis Crick Institute’s strategic priorities is to engage and inspire the public through public events and exhibitions, education outreach, and community engagement programmes, backed by a body of active research scientists who have the skills, desire and opportunity to engage people in their work.  

Building on an established programme, the Public Engagement Manager will manage the creative and strategic development and delivery of the Crick’s public events programme, which seeks to engage diverse audiences with Crick science. This role also leads on embedding a culture of engagement in the institute through a comprehensive training offer open to all Crick staff and regular opportunities to engage. 

This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced public engagement professional with a track record of connecting diverse audiences with science.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take forward the creative and strategic development and delivery of the Crick’s public events programme which seeks to engage diverse audiences with Crick science.
  • Oversee the project management of the public programme, working with the Public Engagement Officers to deliver a programme of regular events that engage public audiences with Crick science.
  • Support the strategic development of activities that engage and involve people with lived experience.
  • Work with the Crick’s Marketing Manager to ensure creative, effective and timely marketing and communication of the Crick’s public events programme to audiences.  
  • Develop and implement an evaluation framework for the Crick’s public programmes, working with external evaluators when necessary. 
  • Work with colleagues to strategically embed EDI principles and practice in our public engagement programmes, and ensure our activities are as inclusive and accessible as possible.
  • Seek out opportunities to extend audience reach, such as partnerships and digital engagement.
