Applications are invited for a permanent post of a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Actuarial Science within UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics at University College Dublin is seeking to appoint a permanent Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Actuarial Science. This new post supports UCD’s strategic themes, in particular Transforming through Digital Technology. The UCD College of Science, to which the School of Mathematics and Statistics belongs, is undergoing an exciting transformation under the guiding principle of `data in science, science in data’.

The UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics is the largest of its kind in Ireland and has over 60 academic staff from all areas of mathematics and statistics. Research activities in the School are supported by a variety of sources including the €22M Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Centre for Research Training in the Foundations of Data Science (www.data-science.ie) which currently has over 40 PhD students in UCD, the Irish Research Council (IRC) and through European Union funding, e.g., the European Research Council (ERC) and Doctoral Training Network schemes. Individual fellowships held by members of the school over the last five years include two ERC Advanced Grants, two IRC Advanced Laureate Grants, two Royal Society/SFI University Research Fellowships, as well as SFI-IRC Research Council Pathway Fellowships and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Postdoctoral Fellowships. The school has strong research links with a broad variety of industry and enterprise partners.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a leading research programme in Actuarial Science, including publishing in peer-reviewed academic journals, the supervision of research students and the development and submission of competitive applications for external funding. The successful candidate will also be expected to be committed to pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across the school’s wide-ranging programmes and to contribute to the development and delivery of new programmes.

Lecturer / Assistant Professor (Above the Bar) Salary Scale: €62,855 - €99,533 Per Annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
