About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic researcher in the area of engineered glycosystems with an application for targeting pathogens. The project is funded by the German Science Foundation and the researcher will work towards the development of these systems through glycoconjugation on nanoparticle surfaces finally leading to elastic microstructures. The overarching aim of the project is to develop customized glycosystems with bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties.
This project role requires a mix of organic synthesis, nanoparticles, biophysical measurements, and preliminary screening in the biology labs. The successful candidate will become part of a multi-disciplinary group in the department of Chemistry. The researcher will develop various glycostructures and control materials, and fully characterize them for biological testing against bacteria. Finally, they will interpret results and prepare them for communicating a publication.
The successful candidate should hold a degree in Chemistry and have a very good understanding of organic synthesis and glyco modifications. Experience with polymer synthesis and nanoparticles is a plus. Candidates holding MSc or PhD are welcome to apply.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
