The opportunity:

The part-time (14 hours per week) Research Assistant (RA) will work with Dr James Eglinton on the project ‘Multilingualism and religious experience’. The main purpose of the project will be to explore how religious experience, its communication and associated moral judgements can be influenced by different languages. Specifically, it will compare the two largest non-English speaking linguistic groups in Scotland: Gaelic and Polish.

The salary for this post is £33,882 to £39,105 pro-rata, per annum.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Experience of developing research design, conducting data collection and analysis in previous projects.
  • Fluent command of the Gaelic language, demonstrable knowledge of Gaelic culture and customs, in particular those related to religious practices.
  • Excellent social and communication skills, ability to approach new people, work with them and maintain contact with them.
  • Respect for different views and different religious creeds, attitudes and practices.
  • Willingness to a flexible approach to work, being able to work independently and as part of a team when required.
  • Enthusiasm and a positive approach to the work and interest and ability to learn new skills.
