The University of Cambridge is looking for a Communications Planner in its Office of External Affairs and Communications. The Office manages the University's external communications worldwide, demonstrating Cambridge's contribution to society through the University's pursuit of education, learning and research at the highest international levels of excellence.

The Communications Planner plans the delivery of, and project manages completion of, campaigns and regular communications to the University's external audiences, including former students and members of the public. The Planner acts as the key point of liaison between University audience leads and communications channel leads, as well as with external agencies and suppliers.

The Communications Planner leads on the planning, production and supply of Cambridge Alumni Magazine (CAM). They coordinate University teams and manage the relationships with external suppliers, publish and maintain CAM's online version, and organise the dissemination of content from the magazine. They also manage correspondence with the magazine's readers.

This is a full-time position, which falls under the scope of UK working time regulations. Our standard working pattern is 2 days per week office-based in central Cambridge, with 3 days per week remote working. Flexible working may be possible for staff wishing to combine their University duties with childcare or other commitments to achieve a better work/life balance.

Whom we're looking for:

To succeed in this role, you will need to have experience of integrated communications campaign planning, operational execution and task management. You will have excellent organisational skills, with a good understanding of project planning and management. With an ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining strong attention to detail, you should have a track record of managing and expanding effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

In addition, you will need excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to write for a range of purposes and audiences. High standards of accuracy and literacy, with excellent proofreading and writing skills, are essential for this role.

You will be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and have strong listening and data synthesis skills. You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and discretion, giving you the ability to work with staff and other stakeholders at all levels, and be comfortable with managing multiple competing priorities effectively. Attention to detail and high standards of accuracy are also essential.

You should be educated to a minimum of undergraduate-degree level (RQF Level 6), or have equivalent professional experience. You must have Maths and English Language qualifications at a minimum of GCSE grade A*-C / 4-9 (RQF Level 2) or equivalent.

In addition to the essential requirements above, we would especially like to hear from you if you have experience of working with customer journey maps and/or communications scheduling planning tools. Experience of managing the production of printed materials, and the related workflows and systems, is desirable.
