The opportunity:

You will carry out analytical and empirical social scientific research, including interviews and discussion groups with participants in Cornwall, to explore how they relate to their gardens as part of the UKRI-funded project ‘If pollinators designed gardens, what would humans plant? Using living artworks and citizen science to drive evidence-based pollinator conservation’, which brings together art, ecology, social science and philosophy to reimagine what gardens are, and what they are for.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week).  We are open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote (within the UK) and regular on-campus working. 

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Science and Technology Studies (STS) or cognate field, either submitted or close to submission by the time of appointment, with training or skills relevant to the project (Desirable).
  • In-depth knowledge of key concepts in STS.
  • Capacity to engage critically with the technical content of the life sciences.
  • Relevant experience of conducting qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Capacity to spend extended periods of time conducting fieldwork in Cornwall, UK.
