The AudioLab, part of the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology, is dedicated to the study of sound and its applications, including core research in immersive and interactive audio, virtual environments, soundscape simulation, music performance and acoustic modelling with applications including health and wellbeing and accessibility. This is an exciting time to join the AudioLab, with our significant research grant success from both AHRC and EPSRC.

Role

A position of Technical Specialist in Immersive Audio Programming is available to work at the AudioLab on the Enhancing Audio Description project, creating accessible tools and plugins for audio production. The programmer will be responsible for converting audio algorithms developed in Matlab to C/C++ for the creation of AAX/VST plugins along with a standalone renderer.

This role is part time, 18.5 hours a week, and available on a fixed term basis for up to 12 months.

Key responsibilities

Role holders will be required to undertake some or all of the duties below

  • Develop and debug spatial audio algorithms for implementation in digital audio workstations
  • Liaise with project stakeholders on algorithm implementation and debugging
  • Develop spatial audio project demonstrators in collaboration with other team members

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

  • BSc/BEng in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • Excellent knowledge of Matlab and C/C++ programming environments
  • Excellent understanding of DSP and spatial audio
  • Familiarity with research in accessibility for visual or hearing impaired or neurodiverse populations.
  • Experience in sound design for film and television.
