Join our dynamic team at Edinburgh University, applying your software development skills to support research on international peace agreements. This unique role not only challenges your technical skills but also contributes to global peace-building efforts.

About the role: 

As a Senior Analyst Developer in our Applications Directorate Development Services Department, you will lead web application development supporting the Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform (PeaceRep). This involves enhancing the PA-X Peace Agreements database, a key tool for researchers accessing data on international peace treaties.

This role is offered as a fixed term contract, with an end date of 31st March 2027. Beyond this, the role may be extended subject to funding arrangements, but this is not guaranteed. 

The team is based in central Edinburgh. We support hybrid working and you will have the option to work remotely for up to 4 days a week if you wish. If you are successful, you should live or plan to move within commuting distance of Edinburgh.

Activities required by the role include: 

  • Develop and maintain Django backend and front-end features.
  • Integrate Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies to facilitate innovative research.
  • Design and expand data architecture to allow API and file download integrations, enhancing external application support.
  • Collaborate with project managers, system and database administrators, and other developers within a 15-member team focused on various university projects.

A bit about you:

Essential

  • Strong experience in Python and Django or similar frameworks.
  • Proficient with JavaScript frameworks, preferably Vue.js.
  • Solid understanding of web technologies including CSS, JavaScript, HTTP, and REST.
  • Experienced in test automation and unit testing.
  • Familiar with Linux environments and command-line usage.

Desirable

  • Prior involvement in projects with formal methodologies involving diverse roles and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and continuous integration/deployment tools.
  • Interest or background in NLP and desire to work in interdisciplinary settings.
