The Community and Primary Care Research Group are looking to recruit a Research Fellow through funding from the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) South West Peninsula (PenARC). PenARC is one of fifteen collaborations funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to address local health and social care questions of national importance.

You will be working as part of the whole PenARC team, and based in the University of Plymouth’s Community and Primary care Research Group, the role will focus mainly on collaborative project work across the Peninsula. Research areas might include Older People, Child Health, Public Health, Mental Health and other Health Services Research related topics. We are committed to actively engaging the public/service users in all our activities. You will need to work collaboratively with diverse partners and members of the public/service users across the Peninsula. PenARC holds a novel ground-up approach to research, led by patients, clinicians, and managers in collaboration with researchers, that has led to notable successes and this post will be required to build on these.

You will have an opportunity to work with national research leaders and be involved in will primarily focus on, and be dedicated to, doing research that makes a difference. There will be opportunities to develop areas of research expertise and or a programme of research as well as play a supportive role. As part of your role, you will likely work with PenARC colleagues across the Universities of Plymouth and Exeter in already established ARC projects.

You will have strong research skills, including experience in quantitative or qualitative approaches, and use these to support research projects already adopted by PenARC in addition to working with colleagues on further funding applications. Experience of research in a health and social care related area is essential. Project outputs are expected to lead to peer-reviewed publications and you will contribute as an author where appropriate.

You will undertake research in line with University/School’s strategy and carry out leadership, management and engagement activities. All activities undertaken within this role will be compliant with the University’s policies, including Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity, Ethics, Data Protection etc. outputs are expected to lead to peer-reviewed publications and you will contribute as an author where appropriate.  You will have ample opportunity to extend methodological skills.

You will hold a PhD or equivalent international qualification, or have demonstrable experience, with a first degree in a health services/social research related subject. You must hold Knowledge of the health and social care system in the UK sufficient to enable innovation and new understanding in the field.

This is a part time post working up to 22.2 hours per week on a fixed-term basis up to 31st March 2026 due to funding.

Remote working is available up to 3 days a week.

The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.
