Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to teach in Geography this coming Autumn 2024.

We are looking for an Associate Lecturer to teach on the following modules:

Module 1.

  • Principles of Geographic Information Systems Level 6 undergraduate, 30 hours. Mondays, 6 – 9pm, 10 weeks January to March 2025.

You will have knowledge of GIS and Spatial Analysis and experience of using GIS for analysing real-world problems and be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience).

Further to the person specification, essential requirements for this role are teaching and research experience in:

  • applying and sharing the concepts and principles of GIS
  • utilising geoprocessing and spatial analytical methods
  • using ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro software
  • handling geospatial data

Module 2.

  • Earth Observation and Environmental Dynamics Level 7 postgraduate, 30 hours. Tuesdays, 6 – 9pm, 10 weeks January to March 2025.

You will have knowledge of Remote Sensing and experience of using Remote Sensing and GIS software and be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience).

Further to the person specification, essential requirements for this role are teaching and research experience in:

  • Managing and processing remote sensing data
  • Utilising remote sensing data to inform modelling environmental dynamics
  • Cloud-based image analysis
  • Modelling land cover change
  • Applying GIS methods to analyse environmental phenomena

Salary and benefits

Payment is based on an hourly rate for contact hours worked. The specific rate depends on length of continuous service with the College and includes of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay.

This hourly rate of £66.70 per hour is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.

Contract

Part-time, 3 month fixed-term contract. Teaching Monday and Tuesday evening 6-9pm. Closing date: 24 September 2024. Interview date: 4 October 2024.
