As Public Engagement & Events Coordinator you will play a crucial role in the Wellcome-funded project ‘Child sexual abuse and recovery: historicising survivor and practitioner experiences (c1950-2022)’, working closely with a dedicated academic team and collaborating with survivor and practitioner organisations.

Co-produced with survivor and practitioner partners, the project will prioritise survivor experiences and offer a challenge to medical and psychiatric expertise on what makes a ‘good recovery’ or supports individuals to live with the aftermaths.

As Public Engagement and Events Co-ordinator, you will:

  • Organise and manage public conferences, symposia, seminars, and workshops.
  • Plan and deliver events using face-to-face, digital, and blended methods.
  • Prepare and promote publicity material for events.
  • Liaise with external organisations and manage specialist external agencies.
  • Monitor and evaluate engagement programme activities.
  • Act as the main point of contact for enquiries from general public, external organisations, academics and students.
  • Maintain and manage the project’s website, share learning and news via social media feeds.

We are looking for a Public Engagement and Events Co-ordinator who has:

  • Working knowledge of promoting engagement and events through various techniques.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ethical awareness and ability to handle sensitive matters.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates with lived experience of childhood abuse or those who have provided services to survivors.

We also encourage Black and minority ethnic candidates as they are under-represented within Birkbeck at this level.

If this sounds like the role for you, please apply with us today.

Salary and benefits:
£16,481 rising to £18,572 per annum - actual. (Pro-rated £32,962 to £37,143 per annum) Grade 5 of the College's London Pay Scale which includes London Weighting/Allowance.

Birkbeck offers a competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and some of the most generous benefits in the HE sector, all while being located right in the heart of Central London.

Contract:
Fixed-term, four-year contract. Part-time (17.5 hours a week, 0.5 FTE). Hybrid working with at least 2 days a week in the office. Travel within the UK and Ireland and occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Please submit an application form. Closing date: 21 October 2024, interview date: 5 November 2024. Appointment will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
