The role

UKRI Engineering Biology Mission Award-funded Technician Position for a Biochemist is available in the Schaffitzel team at the School of Biochemistry, University of Bristol, UK.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for highly motivated, talented and self-driven research technician to support the running of the Schaffitzel lab, produce and characterise proteins and motivated to learn state-of-the-art in vitro selection technology (ribosome display and/or phage display) to generate high-affinity nanobodies from a naïve library to neutralise snake venom metalloproteinases to provide novel snakebite treatment.

You will benefit from an international, dynamic, and welcoming team, working on a collaborative project with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, co-funded by Wellcome Trust and the European Commission. The project is directly relevant to healthcare, using a wide array of techniques, and you will benefit from our local, national and international collaborations (https://addovenom.com/) and the excellent scientific infrastructure and training opportunities at Bristol.

The Schaffitzel lab has expertise in protein production and characterisation, protein engineering and antibody selection technology, and recent successes in translating fundamental insights into therapeutics (Schaffitzel is co-founder of Halo Therapeutics). We have access to state-of-the-art facilities and extensive collaborations and contacts in both academia and industry.

You should apply if

You have a degree, or equivalent experience, in biochemistry, biotechnology or related field. Working experience in protein expression, purification and characterisation is highly desirable. You are a dedicated and reliable team worker, with excellent commutation skills and desire to learn new techniques.
