We are seeking to recruit a Research Development Manager in the Faculty of Science and Engineering focusing on our Quantum theme.

This is an important role within the Faculty Research Development and Innovation Team. Research Development Managers will be expected to lead strategy development and implementation to enable the Faculty to optimise its income, publications and impact from research. They will also facilitate collaborative research opportunities, exploit funding intelligence and develop relationships with external partners.

The focal points for the Research Development Manager (Quantum) are:

  • Programme-manage the £9M+ EPSRC-funded Nanoscale Advanced Materials Engineering (NAME) grant led by Prof. Richard Curry, coordinating its strategic and operational/reporting activities, facilitating the delivery of its outputs, and engaging with its key stakeholders.
  • Drive the development of the EPSRC-funded UK Network in Materials for Quantum Technologies (M4QN), co-led by Prof. Richard Curry, including: coordinating the Committees, Boards and Interest Groups that comprise the Network, managing the Network’s relations with its stakeholders and external partners, facilitating its strategic meetings and events, and developing its externally-facing profile.
  • Support research proposals to sustain or expand NAME, M4QN and related UoM quantum initiatives including the Centre for Quantum Science and Engineering, and facilitate the development and implementation of the Faculty’s strategy for quantum research to capitalise on emerging regional, national and international opportunities.

The successful candidate should have demonstrable experience in scientific management/strategy and have played a substantive role in the development of research proposals (particularly aspects related to developing the proposal itself). In addition, candidates should be educated to degree level in a relevant subject or have demonstrable relevant professional experience. Key qualities include the ability to influence and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders internally and externally, strategy development, and excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills.

This role will be based within the Research Development and Innovation team in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The team consists of the Faculty’s Business Engagement, Research Development, Research Impact, and Internationalisation functions.
