Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Reader in Theory and Simulation of Materials

Imperial College London - Department of Materials, Faculty of Engineering

Location: London
Salary: Internationally Competitive
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 3rd September 2024
Closes: 19th October 2024
Job Ref: ENG03263

About the role:

The Department of Materials wishes to appoint up to four new colleagues to join its academic staff in strategic areas. This will be at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader depending upon experience.

What you would be doing:

You will be expected to plan, direct and undertake the implementation of research activities and programmes of outstanding quality, international repute and innovation in the area of Theory and Simulation of Materials. We welcome applications from experts in different simulation techniques and theoretical frameworks, with no prescription about the specific subfield, thus encompassing the whole spectrum of time- and length-scales relevant to materials, from atomistic to macroscale. While agnostic to the specific methods used, we are seeking a candidate whose research focus is materials and materials-related problems. The ideal candidate will also possess a proven, keen interest in collaborating with experimental groups and/or industry.

What we are looking for:

We invite applications from exceptional candidates with demonstrable expertise relevant to the posts, with complementary research interests to our existing activities. You should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in the physical sciences, engineering, or a related discipline, as well as substantial, relevant postdoctoral experience. You will have (or have demonstrated a strong potential to develop) an international reputation, an outstanding publication record, evidence of securing research funding and an aptitude for inspiring undergraduate students.

You will be expected to plan, direct and undertake the implementation of research activities and programmes of outstanding quality, international repute and innovation. You will also be expected to generate income from external sources to support their own research programme and to develop collaborative programmes with other academics within the Department, across other research centres and institutes across the College and other departments within the College.

Imperial College is committed to building a supportive, inclusive and highly motivated staff community, reflected in the Department of Materials and College receiving Silver Athena Swan awards. We support our staff in their work life balance with a full range of benefits, including flexible work patterns

What we can offer you:

  • This is an exciting opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution.
  • By joining us, you will become part of an academic community focused on finding solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 38 days off a year)
  • We provide a wide-ranging benefits package that includes resources, tools and networks to promote a positive working environment.
  • Pensions – excellent employer contributions
  • Season Ticket loan – interest free.
  • Childcare facilities – Early Years Education Centre
  • Childcare vouchers – salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Staff accommodation
  • Our flagship sports centre and gym in South Kensington Campus
