Lecturer in Glaciology

Cardiff University - School of Earth and Environmental Sciences

Location: Cardiff
Salary: Not Specified
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 3rd September 2024
Closes: 1st October 2024
Job Ref: 18974BR

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Cardiff University, is seeking to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer in Glaciology.

The successful candidate should share our passion for high quality research and research-led education and will contribute to a range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of Earth and Environmental Sciences and will also supervise MSc and PhD thesis students. The successful candidate will show evidence of ability to develop and sustain an internationally recognised, externally funded interdisciplinary research programme in glaciology. We are particularly interested in hiring academics who research the processes important in climate change impacts on glacial environments using remote sensing and/or environmental modelling and who can develop synergies across our existing research portfolio.

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a lively and dynamic community that aims to promote sustainability through education, dissemination, and direct participation, enabling students and staff to make positive changes to our environmental impact, in particular supporting Cardiff University’s declaration of a Climate Emergency and aim to become carbon neutral (Scopes 1 and 2) by 2030.

The School is also committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for promoting inclusive working practices in STEMM subjects in higher education. Staff and students from the School are active members of the global Unlearning Racism in Geoscience (URGE) community. We particularly welcome female applicants and those from an ethnic minority because they are under-represented within the School at these levels.

The position is full-time (35 hours per week) available immediately and is fixed-term for 36 months.

The appointments will be made, dependent on relevant qualification and experience within salary band £39,347 - £44,263 per annum (Grade 6).
