We have a part-time (0.3 to 0.4 FTE) vacancy for a clinical skills tutor to commence at the start of October 2024 on a permanent basis, subject to funding. This post will be based in the Clinical Skills Resource Centre, Heavitree hospital, Exeter.

This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus

Summary of the role

The faculty wishes to recruit a permanent part time, Clinical Skills Tutor (Education and Scholarship) to support the delivery of all aspects of clinical skills including communication skills, examination skills and procedural skills to years one, two, three and five of a five-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree.

The post will include delivery of predesigned sessions following the BMBS timetable to medical students. 

About you

The successful applicant will possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by registration with GMC/NMC or equivalent in health care to develop teaching programmes, teach and support learning in this academic area. They will use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students. They will participate in and develop external networks, for example to contribute to student recruitment, facilitate outreach work, or build relationships for future activities.

The successful applicant will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching. Ideally the applicant will maintain a clinical post in addition to this teaching post, keeping them as current as possible with the changing nature of healthcare and clinical procedures. Staff at this level may wish to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
