It is the educational global lead for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 16 - supporting peace, justice and strong institutions and leading the #jointogether Partner Universities.

Faculty / Directorate

Leicester School of Architecture (LSA) sits in a Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities, which allows us to place inter-disciplinary thinking and collaborations central to the School. We show how different disciplines can positively disrupt one another, revealing new ways of seeing, thinking and making. Art, industry, humanities and design converge to tackle real world issues and speculate and propose new futures. The future of practice is central to the need to develop an ethical construction industry.

As the industry shifts away from large carbon emissions, poor quality construction, excessive construction waste and unsafe working practices, LSA is leading in tackling the Climate Emergency and restoring Social Justice for all.

Role

The Built Environment Programmes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive Lecturer in quantity surveying and construction. Some teaching experience is required. You will therefore have an academic background in quantity surveying and construction – and proven industry experience – with knowledge of construction and the core quantity surveying role including measurement of building works, cost estimating and tendering, procurement and professional quantity surveying practices. You will have an awareness of the current HE education context in the UK and abroad.

Ideal Candidate

You must have a working understanding of RICS accreditation, be a chartered member of RICS or be able to achieve chartered membership within a reasonable, period of appointment. You would ideally possess a PhD in a context appropriate to the Built Environment (or soon to be completed PhD, or equivalent qualification, or equivalent practice-based experience) and be able to undertake independent research. Experience or knowledge of trans-national education will be an added advantage.

Informal enquires about the position to Professor Ahmad Taki ahtaki@dmu.ac.uk - Professor of Building Performance and Sustainability, School of Art, Design & Architecture.
