Summary of the role

We are looking for an organised and proactive Networks Facilitation Officer who will be responsible for the coordination of Exeter Research Network activities, facilitating strategic initiatives for research and creating enabling conditions for high quality research to take place. The job holder’s support will ensure that available funding is allocated and utilised effectively and that the progress of the networks is effectively reported to the University’s Research and Impact Executive Group in a timely manner.

We are looking for someone who can expertly coordinate and support the University of Exeter’s Research Networks, working closely with the Network Facilitation Manager. The ideal candidate will manage interdisciplinary and collaborative research efforts, providing updates and advice to senior stakeholders. They will develop and disseminate content for both internal and external communications, manage budgets, and facilitate best practices across the academic community. Additionally, they will monitor network progress, assess risks, support REF preparations, and provide training on network development. This role also involves analysing sector trends, managing network administrators, and representing the University with external stakeholders.

This role is within the Strategy, Policy and Performance pillar of the Research Services Directorate, which contains in-house experts in research strategy, policy development and planning, the Research Excellence Framework, and engaged research. It also provides the strategic and planning interface between Faculties and Research Services, Exeter Innovation and the Doctoral College, as well as a Business Support Team supporting the three Directorates of Research Services, Exeter Innovation and the Doctoral College.

Background

Exeter Research Networks are virtual interdisciplinary research teams able assemble and operate across University structures, campuses and disciplinary boundaries. Our ambition for the networks is that they serve as beacons that showcase the exciting work being done at Exeter to the external world, and act as internal focal points for expertise and originality. The networks initiative was launched in 2021 as part of Strategy 2030 and since then has grown to include fifteen Exeter Research Networks.

They have academic leaders, strategic vision, network goals and objectives, and alignment with the university’s strategies. They aim to be internationally recognised, transformative, and impactful in their field and seek to collaborate with external partners and communicate their work to non-specialists.

Exeter Research Networks represent key strengths in areas where we aspire to grow recognition both nationally and internationally. They represent a breadth of disciplines and enable researchers to be brought together to tackle challenges on a local, national and global level.
