We are looking to appoint a dynamic and independent Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow with excellent interpersonal skills to join our vibrant research team and drive impactful research into sudden and unexpected deaths in infancy and childhood.

This project, which is funded by the National Institute for Health Research, is the first of its kind, has national reach and importance, and represents the collaboration of multiple stakeholders across the academic, clinical, charitable and policy sectors.

After the sudden death of their child, families often do not have ready access to support and care, and professionals supporting families can be at risk for mental distress and lack support. This is the first study focusing on really understanding experiences, needs and outcomes for families; and will develop recommendations for robust bereavement support and care. The project will involve qualitative data collection with bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings; a national survey of bereavement outcomes; mapping of services across health, social and emergency care; and interviews with professionals. The project has tangible outcomes including development of new national policy to deliver meaningful impact on the lives of families and actual change in the organisation and delivery of services.

These role presents an exciting and challenging opportunity to drive influential research in a collaborative and supportive team environment. We embrace diversity and inclusion in our workplace and the research embodies that commitment. The role is ideal for someone with an interest in social justice and looking to make a real difference through rewarding research, working alongside diverse organisations. It offers opportunities to develop skills in working with vulnerable families, in managing complex studies, combining multiple and novel methods, and publishing in the scientific and policy literature.

You will have a relevant research-related experience, and/or a PhD and a keen interest in the field of health and related areas of mental health and wellbeing. Excellent organisational and communication skills are also essential for this role, and the ability to travel to selected locations. We are open to flexible working, part-time/ job share.

The post will be at the level of Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow, depending on qualifications and previous experience.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given
