About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a keen interest in the management of clinical trials and ideally with previous experience of working in a research environment.  The successful candidate will work within the Addictions Department and with the accredited UKCRC King’s Clinical Trials Unit (KCTU), providing administrative support to both a large multi-centre clinical trial and also a healthy volunteer study of a novel medication. The post holder will work closely with the trial’s Chief Investigator and the KCTU’s Operational Director, to ensure rigorous trial standards are maintained.

The successful candidate will work with Prof Sir John Strang and Dr Julia Rozanova and play a crucial role in managing, overseeing, and supporting two exciting research projects - PRET (Prison Release Engagement Trial) and Buccal Naloxone. They will work closely with study teams to manage and facilitate the effective completion of research activities. This position requires prior experience with managing large research projects that include a randomized trial component as well as familiarity with treatment for opioid use disorder in the criminal justice system and in the community in England. This position requires excellent team building and collaborative skills and ability to problem-solve in real time and interact effectively across a range of various stakeholders and organizations, including experts-by-lived-experience, governmental officials, and clinicians.

This is a full-time post (100% FTE), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 1st July 2027.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Research management and co-ordination experience in relevant topic areas over several years.
  • MSc coursework training in Addictions, Public Health, Mental Health or a related field with a research methodology element.
  • Understanding of Buccal Naloxone and PRET study aims, including ability and experience to collaborate with stakeholders and team members at King’s and externally.
  • Experience in overseeing to successful completion large complex randomized trials, with an understanding of GCP guidelines, and commitment to acquire complete project management skills.
  • Experience in recruiting and maintaining contact with study participants from challenging populations.
  • Experience in managing research projects at KCL or another comparable university environment, including familiarity with protocol development and ethics applications.
  • Excellent IT skills including experience of using complex databases and management information systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including writing for publication.

Desirable criteria

  • Familiarity with the addiction care and criminal justice system in England
  • Experience and skills liaising and collaborating with addiction care and criminal justice system institutions and facilities in England
  • Knowledge and/or interest in innovative strategic approaches such as Buccal Naloxone and prison-release linkage to OAT care
  • Interest and experience with PPI engagement of prison-leavers with OUD, and of PPI engagement for recruitment to experimental studies
  • Skills, experience, and interest in participating in both qualitative and quantitative data analyses.
