About the role

We are seeking an AskBU Adviser to join our busy central enquiries service for students.  AskBU are part of our Frontline Services Team that is managed within BU’s Student Services.  The post holder will be primarily responding to student enquiries received through all modes of communication (phone, email, face-to-face and social media). 

Reporting to the AskBU Supervisor and working as part of the AskBU team, we are looking for a highly motivated individual who has excellent communication and enquiry handling skills as well as experience of providing a high level of frontline customer service.  An understanding of confidentiality and data protection issues is essential, as is the ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with challenging situations.

The AskBU service may operate extended working hours during specific points of the academic year and all advisers may be required to work their contracted hours between the hours of 08.30 am and 7.00 pm with adjusted shift start and end times.  All advisers are also expected to work occasional evening and weekends to support specific activities such as confirmation and clearing, the arrivals periods for new students and open days. This post is primarily located at our Talbot Campus however the post holder may also be required to work at our Lansdowne Campus as part of a scheduled rota.  We are currently following a hybrid working model which means it may also possible to work from home for 1 day a week depending on service needs and staff coverage.
