The role

Based in the Ageing and Movement Research Group (AMRG), this post is an excellent opportunity for an experienced qualitative researcher with an interest in Parkinson’s care to work on a randomised control trial of practice-level intervention, with an embedded mixed-methods process evaluation.

The successful candidate with be responsible for: organising and conducting interviews with participants, their caregivers and staff members to generate the qualitative data to support the process evaluation. They will also lead on the analysis of the qualitative data and contribute to write up and dissemination of findings (e.g. at conferences). The post holder will work independently but also as part of the wider AMRG team.

The successful applicant will be experienced in qualitative data collection, analysis and write-up, and working within a mixed methods research team. They will be able to demonstrate a commitment to working independently and as part of a team, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ideally, they will also be experienced in working with people with Parkinson’s and supporting clinical research studies and trials.

What will you be doing?

  • Review relevant literature
  • Set up and undertake in-depth interviews with participants and their caregivers
  • Analyse qualitative data
  • Use REDcap (web-based software that allows researchers to create and manage their own projects)
  • Present collected data in suitable formats and keep clear and systematic records of data
  • Write peer-reviewed publications based on the qualitative work
  • Present research data and findings to team members and other audiences, e.g. at conferences
  • Attend and contribute to AMRG team meetings

Administration Responsibilities

  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for collection, management and analysis of qualitative data.
  • Contribute to the management of project budgets relating to qualitative evaluation
  • Organise meetings with trial lead to discuss qualitative research progress
  • Maintain internal databases detailing number of interviews conducted and recorded, transcribed and analysed
  • Organise transcription of interviews, and anonymise and prepare transcripts for data archiving and use in future research studies
  • Write up research reports and minutes of meetings

You should apply if

  • You are experienced in interviewing patients
  • You have detailed knowledge and understanding of the range of qualitative methodologies and underlying theory
  • You have enthusiasm for working on applied, NHS-relevant health research
  • You have a PhD (or working towards) in health services research or a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience

Contract type: Fixed Term until 31/05/2025

Work pattern: Part-time / 0.4 FTE

Shift pattern: 14 hours per week
