We are seeking a Research Associate to join our team working on a pilot project exploring safeguarding people with learning disabilities under the Care Act 2014. The project team is primarily based within the Department of Social and Policy Sciences, an interdisciplinary department committed to excellence in research.

About the role 

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced research associate to join a project funded by Avon & Wiltshire Partnership Mental Health Trust entitled, “Involving people with learning disabilities in Safeguarding Enquiries: A Pilot Study”. The project team are conducting a scoping literature review and pilot data collection exploring this issue. The pilot data collection will involve interviews with people with learning disabilities and their family carers, as well as focus groups with social workers and advocates. You will be asked to contribute to activities for both tasks. 

The role is offered on a part-time (14.6 hours per week, 0.4FTE) fixed-term basis with an expected duration of 6 months. 

As a member of Research Staff at the University of Bath, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.

About you

You will have a background in conducting research in the social sciences. You will know about working with people with learning disabilities and their families, including experience in adapting information/your communication to facilitate access and inclusion. You will also have an understanding of researching sensitive topics.
