A position exists for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering to play a key role in developing transport models to explore net zero and resilience future transport for the UK. This forms part of the bigger picture related to the modelling of the impacts of climate change and related policies/scenarios on the performance of transport infrastructure assets and systems. This research is funded by the Research Hub for Decarbonised, Adaptable and Resilient Transport Infrastructures (DARe, see https://dare.ac.uk/). The successful candidate will join a large dynamic team of researchers across five universities. 

The post holder will be located at the University of Cambridge, Department of Engineering, Trumpington Street, Cambridge, UK. 

The candidate will join the existing modelling efforts in the DARe hub to develop a re-usable modelling framework to be applied across different regions of the UK. Key responsibilities include (i) contribution to the development of an integrated modelling process combining inputs and outputs of different types of models (climate, land use, hydrological, transport) (ii) determining stress test scenarios and making informed assumptions on key parameters (iii) design a process for measuring/analysing impacts of different scenarios with respect to decarbonisation, resilience and adaptation (iv) document research findings and present recommendations. 

Applicants must: have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline; have excellent leadership, management, communication, organisational and problem solving skills; ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and to engage with industry partners. 

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded. 

Salary Ranges:

Research Assistant: £29,605 - £33,966; Research Associate: £36,024 - £44,263. 

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
