About us

The Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering is one of the largest Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering departments in the UK. The Department is proud to host internationally leading research groups covering a broad range of activities and spread over several sites. Our staff and students have a diverse range of interests and expertise, covering many areas of physics, engineering, medicine, physiology, computer science, and mathematics. Our focus is on excellent academic research to identify new technologies and methods for the diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases. About the role

We are looking for two new Lecturers (Assistant Professors) to lead their own research group within the department. This is an open call, and you may propose a programme of research of your choice, aligned with the interests of the department.

You will also develop and teach new modules, offer mentorship and support to your team, act as personal tutor for students on our taught programmes, supervise student projects and contribute to the effective running of the department.

  • This is a permanent position.
  • This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
  • We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible.
  • This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site.

About you:

You will have an exciting vision for your research group and be able to communicate how this research group could flourish within UCL. You will be, or have the potential to be, an effective and approachable leader, demonstrating mentorship and support for your team. You will have a PhD level degree or equivalent in Engineering, the Physical Sciences, Computer Science or relevant field, and must have experience in producing independent, original, impactful and rigorous research contributions in your field. You will be familiar with the research funding process and grant writing. You will have experience of supervising BSc, MSc and PhD level students and of delivering university level teaching at either BSc or MSc level, in a relevant topic.
